50g gold bar prices

A 50g gold bar contains 50 grams of fine gold, about 1.61 troy ounces. Larger bars usually carry a lower premium than a 1oz bar, because the cost of making and handling one is spread over more gold.

The gold in a 50g gold bar is worth $9,449.93 at today's spot price.

Premium over the last 90 days

On 22 Oct the median premium was 3.6%, across the 6 dealers priced that day.

Over the last 90 days, the median premium for a 50g gold bar ranged from 3.4% to 4.1%. On 22 October it was 3.6%.

To find the median premium, we take each dealer's middle premium and then the middle of those, so every dealer counts once. The chart counts only the listings we have priced on most weekdays in this period, so a product joining or leaving does not move the line. Each day uses the last price of that day, Sydney time. Lowest is the smallest premium any of them listed that day, and spot is the gold price in AUD on the left-hand scale.

What is the premium?

The premium is the amount a product's price sits above the spot value of its metal. It covers costs such as production and distribution, as well as the dealer's margin. We calculate it by comparing the published price with the spot price recorded when the price was collected.
