1/2oz gold bar prices
A 1/2oz gold bar contains half a troy ounce of fine gold, about 15.6 grams. Small bars usually carry a higher premium than a 1oz bar, because the cost of making and selling one is spread over less gold.
The gold in a 1/2oz gold bar is worth $2,948.38 at today's spot price.
Pick the dealers you would buy from and the list drops anything they do not sell. A state picks every dealer with an address there, which you can then adjust. Prices and dealer counts still cover every dealer we track, so a row can name more dealers than you picked.

Premium over the last 90 days
On 22 Oct the median premium was 5.3%, across the 5 dealers priced that day.
Over the last 90 days, the median premium for a 1/2oz gold bar ranged from 5.1% to 6.0%. On 22 October it was 5.3%.
To find the median premium, we take each dealer's middle premium and then the middle of those, so every dealer counts once. The chart counts only the listings we have priced on most weekdays in this period, so a product joining or leaving does not move the line. Each day uses the last price of that day, Sydney time. Lowest is the smallest premium any of them listed that day, and spot is the gold price in AUD on the left-hand scale.
What is the premium?
The premium is the amount a product's price sits above the spot value of its metal. It covers costs such as production and distribution, as well as the dealer's margin. We calculate it by comparing the published price with the spot price recorded when the price was collected.
